Spring Cleaning Tips

Spring is almost here, and there is something about the flowers starting to bloom, birds chirping, weather warming up, the sun shining, and of course, a fresh, clean home! Although escaping the winter blues can be challenging, preparing your home for the warmer weather ahead doesn’t have to be complicated—and it can even be fun at times. Here are a few tips to get your home ready to ensure less stress as we move into the spring season.

Plan

When taking the first steps to start your spring cleaning, there are some rooms in your house that may require a little extra attention. It’s best to create a checklist for each room in the home. This checklist will help you organize what needs to be done and truly focus on the spaces that may have been a little more neglected during the winter season.

Organize

Once you have determined the rooms and their needs for your big clean, it’s time to organize. Getting rid of clutter is a big part of spring cleaning; in most homes, we all have clothes in our closets that never get worn or even things we just genuinely don’t need anymore. Making categories for the items you are going through will help make this process as easy as it can be. Starting with a keep, throw away, and donate pile is very helpful when organizing. This will make you have to go through and get rid of things that you’ve needed to for a while now.

Assign

Utilizing family members to help is a great way to speed up this spring-cleaning project. It also allows everyone to feel included and maybe have more control over their own space. You can also make this a fun bonding thing with the family by throwing on some music. This is also a great chore incentive for the kids to make a little extra money for their piggy bank.

Establish

Once you complete your spring clean, you may want to create a routine to ensure you don’t have to tackle such a big clean moving forward. In addition, keeping up with specific cleaning projects will make things a lot easier in the long run. For example, taking 10 to 15 minutes per day to focus on specific areas of the home will help create a natural habit of cleaning daily. This method will ensure next year’s spring cleaning is a breeze and less stressful. For more insights, please see my recent article Organizing Tips to Simplify Your Life.
